Minister MbadI Mbasu Wilson describes Uganda as the best investment destination for the OIC countries at the TPS-OIC 3rd Trade Meeting in Istanbul on June 12th, 2024. The presentation focused on Uganda’s trade priorities and opportunities under the Trade Preferential System among the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (TPS-OIC).
Some potential highlights from the presentation he made included:
- Emphasis on increasing trade volumes and economic cooperation between Uganda and OIC member states
- Showcasing of Uganda’s key export products and investment opportunities in areas like agriculture, tourism manufacturing, and services
- Discussion of challenges and solutions for enhancing trade facilitation and reducing non-tariff barriers between Uganda and the OIC member states
- Exploration of potential collaborations in areas like industrial development, SME growth, and e-commerce
- Reiteration of Uganda’s commitment to the TPS-OIC agreement and its goals for regional economic integration
- Operationalizing Uganda Airlines from Entebbe International Airport directly to İstanbul.
- The need to resolve issues of ouble taxation concerns on both imports and exports.
- Formation of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to fast track most of the above concerns, among others
Hon. Minister Mbadi reiterated and assured OIC of the peaceful and conducive environment to trade in Uganda with plenty of government incentives, availability of markets for products like EAC, COMESA, AfCFTA, EU & US.
