



The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Ankara has signed a Cooperation Protocol with the Federation of International Student Associations (UDEF) aimed at strengthening support mechanisms for Ugandan students pursuing higher education in Türkiye.
The Protocol was signed by H.E. Nusura Tiperu, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the Republic of Türkiye, and Mr Abdullah Muhammed Islam, President of UDEF.
The agreement seeks to enhance the academic, social, and cultural integration of Ugandan students in Türkiye, while promoting structured institutional collaboration in the field of higher education.
The signing followed a courtesy visit by the Embassy delegation to UDEF headquarters in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye. The visit aimed to strengthen institutional cooperation and explore collaborative opportunities in higher education, student mobility, and academic engagement between Uganda and Türkiye.
Key Discussion Points and Proposed Areas of Cooperation
International Student Symposium Cooperation
The meeting explored Kampala International University’s potential participation as a partner institution in the upcoming 12th International Student Symposium organised by UDEF. The initiative would enhance academic exchange and provide a platform for research collaboration and international student engagement.
Education Expo in Uganda
Both sides discussed the possibility of organising an Education Expo in Uganda in collaboration with Turkish universities. The proposed expo would: Promote higher education opportunities in Türkiye, increase awareness among Ugandan students about scholarship programs, strengthen university-to-university partnerships and encourage student mobility between Uganda and Türkiye
Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
Discussions were also held regarding the signing of a broader joint MoU between UDEF and selected African Embassies in Türkiye. A dedicated event was proposed to: Introduce UDEF’s work and student engagement programs,
Facilitate the MoU signing process and explore joint academic and cultural initiatives.
Support for Visiting Delegations
UDEF expressed readiness to: Guide and support Ugandan delegations visiting Turkish universities, Facilitate institutional linkages with universities across Türkiye and Arrange meetings with relevant academic and business representatives.
Outcome of the Visit
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between UDEF and the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Ankara to further institutionalise cooperation and advance mutually beneficial initiatives.
The Embassy reaffirms its commitment to supporting Ugandan students abroad and strengthening Uganda-Türkiye cooperation in education, cultural exchange, and youth development.
