Uganda’s Vice President, Jessica Alupo, made a stopover in Istanbul, Türkiye, en route to Russia, where she was headed to attend the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum. During her transit, Her Excellency Amb. Nusura Tiperu warmly welcomed her, accompanied by the Embassy team, making Vice President Alupo feel right at home.

At the forum, Vice President Alupo emphasized the significance of this premier global gathering, which shines a spotlight on pressing women’s issues and provides a valuable platform for participants to share experiences and foster international collaboration, taking advantage of the theme: ‘Women for Strengthening Trust and Global Cooperation.’

Minister MbadI Mbasu Wilson describes Uganda as the best investment destination for the OIC countries at the TPS-OIC 3rd Trade Meeting in Istanbul on June 12th, 2024. The presentation focused on Uganda’s trade priorities and opportunities under the Trade Preferential System among the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (TPS-OIC).

Some potential highlights from the presentation he made included:

• Emphasis on increasing trade volumes and economic cooperation between Uganda and OIC member states
• Showcasing of Uganda’s key export products and investment opportunities in areas like agriculture, tourism manufacturing, and services
• Discussion of challenges and solutions for enhancing trade facilitation and reducing non-tariff barriers between Uganda and the OIC member states
• Exploration of potential collaborations in areas like industrial development, SME growth, and e-commerce
• Reiteration of Uganda’s commitment to the TPS-OIC agreement and its goals for regional economic integration
• Operationalizing Uganda Airlines from Entebbe International Airport directly to İstanbul.
• The need to resolve issues of ouble taxation concerns on both imports and exports.
• Formation of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to fast track most of the above concerns, among others

Hon. Minister Mbadi reiterated and assured OIC of the peaceful and conducive environment to trade in Uganda with plenty of government incentives, availability of markets for products like EAC, COMESA, AfCFTA, EU & US.

Amb. Nusura TIPERU, Head of Mission in the Republic of Türkiye is glad to announce that Uganda will showcase its coffee during Coffex Istanbul 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey, joining other countries like Indonesia.

All stakeholders like; MAAIF, MTIC, UCDA, MTWA & UTB are encouraged to take lead in the preparation of this, once in a while, opportunity to showcase Uganda, The Pearl of Africa’s Potential to the rest of the world in terms of our diversity.

The event will take place at the Halic Congress Center, Sutluce Mah. Karaagac Cad. No.19 34445 – Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey. The exact dates for Coffex Istanbul 2024 have been announced to take place from June 27th to 30th, 2024. Uganda’s participation in the event aims to promote its coffee and increase its share in the global market .

Uganda was selected to showcase its coffee at Coffex 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey, for several reasons:

1. High-quality coffee: Uganda is known for producing high-quality coffee, particularly Arabica, which is in high demand globally.
2. Coffee production: Uganda is one of the top coffee producers in Africa and the world, making it an important player in the global coffee industry.
3. Diverse flavors: Ugandan coffee is known for its diverse flavor profiles, ranging from fruity to chocolatey notes, which will be showcased at Coffex 2024.
4. Export potential: Uganda is looking to increase its coffee exports, and participating in Coffex 2024 provides an opportunity to connect with potential buyers and expand its market reach.
5. Promoting Ugandan brands: The event offers a platform for Ugandan coffee brands to gain international recognition and promote their products to a global audience.

Uganda’s Minister of State for Trade, Industry & Cooperatives, Gen Wilson Mbadi Mbasu, met with his Turkish counterpart, ÖMER BÖLAT, on Monday. The meeting, held at the Hilton Bomonti Hotel in Istanbul, focused on boosting trade ties between the two nations.

Hon. Mbadi highlighted Uganda’s commitment to reciprocity and its openness to Turkish investment. He emphasized the need for establishing a structured Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to address mutual concerns and foster enhanced cooperation. This JEC would serve as a platform to systematically tackle issues and strengthen economic ties.

On his part, Minister Bölät pointed out the relatively low trade volumes between Uganda and Türkiye, which stood at $82 million last year. He stressed the importance of increasing these figures through greater cooperation, acknowledging the capabilities of Turkish companies and Uganda’s adoption of Turkish technologies. Bölät also highlighted the need to resolve issues related to double taxation and energy companies to facilitate smoother business operations.

Both ministers expressed a strong commitment to boosting trade and investment. They discussed leveraging Uganda’s market access and investment incentives to attract more Turkish businesses. Additionally, they agreed to work collaboratively to resolve outstanding issues promptly and deepen cooperation to ease the movement of people, goods, and services.
